Football News Update: Esme Morgan Joins Washington Spirit in NWSL
In a major move in the world of women’s football, England defender Esme Morgan has signed a four-year deal with the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The 23-year-old’s planned departure from Manchester City was announced last month, and her destination has now been confirmed.
“The opportunity to work under Jonatan, one of the world’s best coaches, is really exciting, and I look forward to learning from him and pushing myself to become the best player I can be, hopefully helping the team to success,” Morgan said.
According to the reports, Manchester City will receive a transfer fee for the transfer, and Morgan will be eligible to join the Spirit squad on July 15. The defender is excited about the opportunity to work with Jonatan Giraldez, the new Spirit boss, who previously won the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona.
Morgan came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and made her professional debut for the club in 2017. During her time with the Citizens, she went on to make 87 appearances across all competitions.
This move to the NWSL and the Washington Spirit will provide Morgan with a new challenge as she aims to further develop her skills and contribute to the success of her new team. Fans of the sport will be eager to see how the talented English defender performs in the highly competitive NWSL.
