Football News: France Make History in Euro 2024, Advance Without Scoring

France have broken a remarkable record as they qualified for the knockout stages of Euro 2024. In advancing from the group stage, Les Bleus became the first nation in World Cup or European Championship history to progress without one of their players scoring a goal.

France are yet to find the back of the net in two Euro 2024 fixtures so far. Their opening fixture against Austria ended with a 1-0 victory, thanks to an own-goal from Maximilian Wober during the first half. Their second clash against the Netherlands on Friday night ended in a 0-0 draw, leaving them with four points from two games.

Despite their lack of goals, this is enough to see them progress to the last-16, even with one match remaining against Poland, which is live on talkSPORT.

“France boast one of world football’s finest goalscorers in Kylian Mbappe, however, his tournament has been heavily disrupted by injury. The soon-to-be Real Madrid star was replaced late on in the victory over Austria after suffering a horrific broken nose, and he remained on the bench as an unused substitute in the stalemate against the Netherlands.”

After returning to action in a behind-closed-doors friendly, Mbappe is expected to start for France against Poland, with Les Bleus aiming to top Group D and end their goal drought.

Having already made international football history, they’ll be hoping to finally find the net themselves to boost their confidence going into the next round of the Euro 2024 competition.
