Football News Update: Euro 2024, Champions League, and More

The women’s football landscape is abuzz with transfer activities and managerial changes as the offseason progresses.

In the Women’s Super League (WSL), one of the most recognizable goalkeepers out of contract this summer is England’s Mary Earps of Manchester United. Reports indicate that Earps was in talks to renew her Red Devils deal in May, but no confirmation of an extension has been made public yet, leaving her future uncertain. French giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in the shot-stopper.

Despite winning five consecutive WSL titles, Chelsea are not resting on their laurels. The club is expected to make their first signing of the Bompastor era, securing the services of Paris Saint-Germain striker Sandy Baltimore. Additionally, reports from Spain have linked the Blues with a move for Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati, the Ballon D’Or and World Cup-winning midfielder, who has a reported release clause of £2.5 million, which would set a new women’s world transfer record.

On the flip side, Manchester City’s Laia Aleixandri is reportedly a target for Barcelona, as they prepare for the potential departure of Lioness Lucy Bronze, whose contract is also set to expire.

Elsewhere, England international Katie Robinson has left Brighton and is rumored to be heading to the United States, while Grace Clinton, who had a successful loan spell at Tottenham last season, is the subject of transfer speculation, with parent club Manchester United likely to want the creative midfielder to stay.

One of the most intriguing transfer sagas of the summer could involve Aston Villa midfielder Alisha Lehmann, who has been linked with a move to Juventus, potentially due to her relationship with Douglas Luiz, who is rumored to be transferring between the respective men’s clubs.

Beyond player transfers, the WSL managerial merry-go-round is in full swing, with Brighton, Leicester, and Aston Villa all seeking new permanent managers. Villa are in the advanced stages of their search, with experienced Icelandic coach Elisabet Gunnarsdottir and Bristol City boss Lauren Smith reportedly in contention.

Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving landscape of women’s football as the offseason heats up.
