Football News: West Brom’s Josh Maja Bags Hat-Trick in 3-1 Win over QPR
In a thrilling start to the new football season, West Bromwich Albion came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. The match, which took place on August 5th, saw Josh Maja score a hat-trick for the Baggies.
Rangers took the lead in the 16th minute when Lucas Andersen headed in an excellent cross from youngster Rayan Kolli. However, West Brom responded quickly, with Maja equalizing 10 minutes later by scoring from a cross by summer signing Torbjorn Heggem.
Maja then struck twice more in the second half, with both goals coming after fine work by Tom Fellows on the right flank. On the 51st minute, Fellows set up Maja’s second goal with a chipped cross, and in the 65th minute, Fellows’ cross ricocheted off Rangers captain Steve Cook, allowing Maja to hook the ball home from close range.
“The result is a hugely disappointing start to the season for QPR, who struggled to find their rhythm after the early breakthrough. West Brom, on the other hand, will be delighted with their team’s performance, especially Maja, who only managed one goal during the whole of last season.”
The match provided a clear reality check for QPR, according to manager Marti Cifuentes, who acknowledged the need for the team to be “very humble and work very hard to achieve what we want to achieve.” West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, meanwhile, was encouraged by his team’s superb start to the campaign, with no hangover from last season’s play-off defeat.
The win for West Brom is a strong start to their campaign as they look to bounce back from their Championship play-off disappointment last season. The result will also serve as a boost for the team’s confidence as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures in the EFL Championship, EFL Cup, and potentially the FA Cup.
