Brighton’s Push for WSL’s Top Four, Fran Kirby’s Ambitions

Brighton have set their sights on breaking into the Women’s Super League’s (WSL) top four, and they have made significant investments in world-class training facilities to support their ambitions. Fran Kirby, the Lionesses star, has recently joined the club and expressed her excitement about the “project” Brighton is undertaking.

“I know how much you have to sacrifice to put yourself in that position to be in the top four, never mind winning titles,” Kirby said. “The club’s ambition is what they want to do, and they made that very clear when I spoke to them. It is a project, it will be really tough, and it won’t be something that just happens overnight.”

Kirby was impressed by the club’s commitment to their women’s team, noting, “You only have to come down to the training ground to see what they’re doing here. I don’t think I’ve ever seen, in the women’s game, such amazing facilities.”

The Lionesses are set to defend their Euro 2024 title in Switzerland next year, and while Kirby would “love” to be part of the squad, she insists that her decision to join Brighton was not solely based on that. Instead, she wanted to be a part of a club that is “fully behind their women’s team and wants them to grow.”

Kirby’s competitive nature is a driving force behind her move, as she explained, “I’m a competitive person, a competitive trainer, a competitive player, so I wanted to go somewhere where I felt I could keep those standards up.”

With Brighton’s ambitious plans and Kirby’s addition to the squad, the club is poised to make a strong push for the top four in the WSL. As Kirby said, “Success for me would be getting out on the pitch every day, playing for the badge, and winning football games. That’s where the success starts.”

Football enthusiasts will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Brighton’s progress in the upcoming season as they strive to establish themselves as a top contender in the WSL.
