Football News: Brighton Pursue Leeds Winger Crysencio Summerville

Brighton have opened negotiations with Leeds United over a potential move for winger Crysencio Summerville, according to reports from talkSPORT.

Leeds expect to lose the £30 million-rated Summerville, who has been one of the standout performers in the EFL Championship, following their failure to secure an immediate return to the Premier League. The 22-year-old Dutchman’s current contract with the Yorkshire club is set to expire in September 2026.

“Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion, losing 1-0 to Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley last month. The disappointment has led to fears among Leeds fans that several key players may depart the club ahead of another season in the second tier.”

Summerville joined Leeds from Feyenoord in 2020 after their Championship-winning campaign under Marcelo Bielsa. He has since gone on to make 89 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals and providing 12 assists, with half of those appearances coming in the EFL Championship. His impressive 19-goal, 9-assist haul last season was a driving force behind Leeds’ push for promotion.

In addition to Summerville, other Leeds players such as Jack Harrison, Archie Gray, Willy Gnonto, and Georginio Rutter have also been linked with potential exits from Elland Road this summer. However, former Leeds star Jermaine Beckford has suggested that Gray is unlikely to leave the club.

Brighton’s Interest and Squad Changes

Brighton, meanwhile, have recently appointed Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager, replacing Roberto De Zerbi, who departed at the end of the Premier League season. De Zerbi is reportedly set for an immediate return to management.

The Seagulls have already strengthened their squad with the signing of winger Ibrahim Osman from Nordsjaelland for a reported fee of £16 million, a deal that was agreed back in February. Brighton have also seen the departures of Adam Lallana and Steven Alzate, with Lallana rejoining his former club, Southampton.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the pursuit of Crysencio Summerville is set to be a key storyline for both Brighton and Leeds as they look to bolster their squads ahead of the upcoming season.
