Football News Update: Stockport County Sign Midfielder Lewis Bate from Leeds United
In a significant move for the football community, Stockport County have announced the signing of midfielder Lewis Bate following his release from Championship side Leeds United. The 21-year-old has joined the Hatters on a three-year deal, strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
Bate, who previously spent three years with Leeds United after signing from Chelsea, made just five senior appearances for the Championship club. He spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Oxford United and the latter half of the previous season on loan in League Two with MK Dons.
Stockport County manager Dave Challinor expressed his delight at securing Bate’s services, stating, “Lewis is a player that we attempted to sign in January, but it wasn’t to be. From that point, we’ve kept an eye on his situation, and when we knew he was being released by Leeds, we immediately renewed our interest.“
Challinor further added, “We’ve had to be really patient as there was interest in Lewis from higher up, but thankfully our patience has been rewarded.“
During his loan spell with MK Dons last season, Bate made 22 appearances, helping the team reach the League Two play-offs, where they were ultimately defeated by Crawley Town.
This signing represents a significant addition to Stockport County’s squad as they look to build on their success and make a strong push in the upcoming football season.
