Football News: Stockport County Manager Dave Challinor Attracting Interest Amid Euro 2024 and FIFA World Cup Buildup
Stockport County manager Dave Challinor has been the subject of interest from various clubs, with links to Birmingham City and Sunderland, as the buildup to Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues.
The 48-year-old took over the Greater Manchester club in November 2021 after leaving Hartlepool United, and has since led the side out of the National League, through League Two, and up into League One. Challinor’s impressive managerial record, which includes seven promotions, has caught the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.
The first link came at the beginning of last season, with BBC Radio Manchester reporting that Challinor had been interviewed for the Charlton Athletic vacancy. Rumors then resurfaced towards the end of the season, with Challinor’s name being mentioned in connection with the manager’s roles at Birmingham City and Sunderland, both of which were struggling to land their initial targets.
“Challinor’s success at Stockport County and his strong managerial track record have made him an attractive option for clubs looking to make a push towards the EFL Championship and the Premier League.”
As the road to Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues, the managerial carousel in English football is expected to keep turning. Dave Challinor’s name will undoubtedly remain in the mix, but for now, he may be best served staying put and building on the progress he has made with Stockport County.
