Notts County Sign Goalkeeper Alex Bass from Sunderland
In a move that aims to bolster their defensive lineup, Notts County have secured the signing of goalkeeper Alex Bass from Sunderland on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old keeper, who joined Sunderland from Portsmouth in the summer of 2022, made only two cup appearances for the Black Cats. However, he found success on loan in League Two with AFC Wimbledon last season, where he kept an impressive 17 clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Notts County, who struggled defensively in the 2023-24 season, conceding a total of 86 goals, view Bass as “the best-performing goalkeeper in League Two last season,” according to Richard Montague, the board lead on recruitment.
“He’s a commanding presence who we feel will give us a huge advantage in dealing with the threats we struggled against in 2023-24,” Montague added, emphasizing the club’s belief that Bass will be a valuable asset in strengthening their backline.
This move represents the third summer addition for Notts County, following the arrivals of defenders Jacob Bedeau and Matty Platt, as the club looks to bounce back from a challenging previous season in League Two.
Football enthusiasts will be keenly following the progress of Alex Bass and his impact on Notts County’s performance in the upcoming EFL League Two campaign, as the team aims to improve upon their 14th-place finish in the previous season.
