Chelsea Continue Spending Spree for Euro 2024 and Champions League Push
Chelsea are set to continue their aggressive spending in the transfer market, aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 and Champions League campaigns.
The Blues have already splashed out around £600 million on new signings in 2023 and have already spent over £50 million this window. Chelsea acted swiftly in hiring Enzo Maresca from Leicester City after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino.
Midfielder Kieran Dewsbury-Hall has followed Maresca from Leicester to Stamford Bridge in a £30 million deal. The west Londoners have also paid Aston Villa £19 million to secure the services of teenage starlet Omari Kellyman. Additionally, Chelsea activated the £5.07 million release clause of 18-year-old forward Marc Guiu from Barcelona.
Furthermore, the club has signed centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer after he decided to run down his contract at rivals Fulham.
Chelsea are likely to continue their spending spree, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen being a known target. However, the club may need to cash in on some of their academy graduates to help fund their summer business, with Ian Maatsen already sold to Aston Villa for over £35 million. Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja also face uncertain futures.
“Chelsea’s focus on strengthening their squad underscores their determination to return to the Champions League and compete for major trophies in the upcoming season.”
Under Maresca’s preferred 4-1-2-3 formation, Chelsea’s lineup could feature Robert Sanchez in goal, with Reece James and Marc Cucurella as the full-backs. Wesley Fofana, if fit, could partner Adarabioyo in central defence, while Moises Caicedo is expected to anchor the midfield.
Enzo Fernandez and Dewsbury-Hall could feature in the box-to-box roles, with Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk on the wings and Osimhen leading the line.
