Football News Update: Chelsea Secure Promising Teen Striker Marc Guiu for £5M Release Clause

In a significant move in the world of football, Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to activate the £5 million release clause of Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu. The 18-year-old Spanish striker is set to undergo a medical in London, as the Blues bolster their attacking options.

The transfer comes after Barcelona’s unsuccessful attempts to remove the modest release clause from Guiu’s contract by offering him an extension. However, after a week of negotiations with the player’s agency, Chelsea have emerged victorious in the pursuit of the Spain Under-19 international.

Guiu, a graduate of Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, made an immediate impact on his debut, scoring just 23 seconds into the game against Athletic Bilbao in 2023. Despite his limited senior experience, having scored twice in seven appearances, the young striker is believed to be a signing for Chelsea’s first team.

“These signings reflect Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to strengthening their squad and investing in promising young talent.”

The Blues are not ruling out the possibility of bringing in further attackers during the summer transfer window. In a separate move, Aston Villa’s 18-year-old forward Omari Kellyman is also set to join Chelsea for £19 million on a five-year contract, with an option for a further year, after completing his medical this week.

As the football world eagerly awaits the upcoming Euro 2024, Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and Women’s World Cup, Chelsea’s latest acquisitions could prove to be valuable additions to their roster.
