Football News: Chesterfield and Swindon Draw in EFL Opener

In the opening match of the new EFL season, Chesterfield and Swindon Town played out a 1-1 draw at the Technique Stadium. The game saw Chesterfield take an early lead, but Swindon fought back to earn a share of the points.

Chesterfield struck first in the 15th minute when Armando Dobra scored from close range after Jack Bycroft had parried a shot from Will Grigg. Chesterfield had appeals for a penalty turned down shortly after, with manager Paul Cook being shown a yellow card by referee Scott Oldham.

Swindon pushed for an equalizer in the first half, with Harry Smith heading just over from a cross by Will Wright. Grigg also had a shot saved by Bycroft for the home side.

The visitors started the second half strongly, with Ollie Clarke and Wright both going close, before the latter found the top corner with a long-range strike in the 64th minute to level the scores.

“Despite both teams pushing for a winner in the closing stages, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that will be seen as a positive start to the season for both sides.”

The result means Chesterfield and Swindon Town have one point each in the EFL League Two standings after the opening round of fixtures.
