Football News: Cristiano Ronaldo Makes History at Euro 2024
In a milestone achievement for the sport, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to feature at a record sixth European Championship. The 39-year-old forward was in the starting lineup for his side’s Group F opener against the Czech Republic on Tuesday in Germany.
Ronaldo’s international teammate, Pepe, also started the match, with the 41-year-old and 113-day-old defender becoming the oldest player in Euros history.
Ahead of the game at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena, Ronaldo’s teammate Ruben Dias, the Manchester City defender, praised the veteran’s ongoing contribution to the team.
“Cristiano represents the idea that it’s possible to dream and achieve great things,” said Dias. “It’s a pleasure to have him with us. Beyond all those little big things I’ve mentioned, it’s important that he’s here with us at this stage of his career.”
Ronaldo had already cemented his legacy in the competition, holding the records for most European Championship goals (14) and most appearances (25) before the start of the 2024 tournament. Now, he has added another impressive feat to his illustrious career.
As the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Ronaldo and Portugal as they aim to defend their title and cement the iconic player’s place in football history.
