Football News Update: Dani Olmo’s Transfer Race Heats Up Ahead of Euro 2024

The race for the signature of RB Leipzig and Spain star Dani Olmo is intensifying, with Manchester United emerging as potential suitors, according to the latest reports. Barcelona, the club where Olmo initially developed, are also keen on bringing the 26-year-old midfielder back to Camp Nou.

Olmo, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, joined the Catalan giants from local rivals Espanyol at the age of nine. However, the Blaugrana surprisingly allowed him to depart for Dinamo Zagreb when he was just 16 years old. Olmo went on to make his senior debut three months before his 17th birthday and established himself as one of the most promising young attacking midfielders in Europe during his time in the Croatian capital.

In January 2020, Olmo was sold to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig for a fee of €29 million. Since then, he has been a standout performer for the German club, scoring 29 goals and providing 34 assists in 148 appearances across all competitions.

Olmo’s impressive form has earned him a regular spot in the Spain national team, for whom he has scored 11 goals in 38 caps since making his debut in November 2019.

Current Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, who previously worked with Olmo at the Under-21 and Under-23 levels, as well as the Olympics three years ago, will be eager to see the midfielder continue his development at the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.

While Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with Olmo in the past, it is now reported that they are not expected to pursue the Spanish playmaker this summer. Instead, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are said to be the “ones to watch” in the race for Olmo’s signature.

Barcelona, the club where Olmo grew up, have already held direct talks with Leipzig regarding a potential move to bring the player back to Camp Nou. However, the Catalan giants’ financial situation may prove to be a stumbling block, with the priority being the signing of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Olmo’s current release clause at RB Leipzig is €60 million (£51 million), but this clause is set to expire on July 20th. Despite this, potential suitors feel that Leipzig will still be open to negotiating a deal for the midfielder even after the clause expires, potentially on similar terms.

As the build-up to the Euro 2024 tournament continues, the future of Dani Olmo remains an intriguing storyline in the world of Football News.
