EFL Cup Preview: Portsmouth vs. Millwall
Two Championship sides will square off in Tuesday’s EFL Cup first-round clash as Portsmouth host Millwall at Fratton Park.
Pompey made an exciting start to their return to the Championship, earning a hard-fought point against Leeds United in their league opener. John Mousinho’s side will be aiming to build on that result and reach the second round of the EFL Cup for the third consecutive season.
However, Pompey will face a stern test against a Millwall team looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Watford on the opening day of the Championship campaign. The Lions have won their last three meetings with Portsmouth, including a 1-0 victory at Fratton Park in 2012.
Team News:
“Portsmouth will be without the injured quartet of Regan Poole, Jacob Farrell, Josh Murphy and Colby Bishop. Summer signing Jordan Archer is set to make his Pompey debut against his former club.”
Millwall are expected to be without Murray Wallace, Billy Mitchell, Adam Mayor and Zian Flemming due to injury, while defender Japhet Tanganga is serving the second game of a three-match suspension.
Prediction:
Despite Millwall’s recent dominance in this fixture, we believe Portsmouth will have enough to secure a 2-1 victory and advance to the second round of the EFL Cup.
