Football News: Euro 2024, Champions League, and More
As England prepare for their journey at Euro 2024, manager Gareth Southgate’s squad is set to undergo some changes as the tournament progresses. The question on many fans’ minds is – who is most likely to break into the starting XI?
Goalkeeping Conundrum
According to reports, the goalkeeping position is a tight race, with Dean Henderson, Aaron Ramsdale, and Jordan Pickford all vying for the coveted spot. Henderson, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, has impressed for Crystal Palace, while Ramsdale’s lack of playing time at Arsenal puts him on shaky ground. Pickford, however, remains Southgate’s favorite and justified his selection in England’s tournament opener against Serbia.
Attacking Options
In the attacking department, Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins, and Lewis Dunk will be hoping to make an impact, with Toney’s form being a concern after his post-betting ban return. Watkins, on the other hand, is coming off a stellar season with Aston Villa and could provide a useful option for Southgate.
Midfield Talent
The midfield has several intriguing options, including the likes of Cole Palmer, Adam Wharton, Eberechi Eze, and Jarrod Bowen. While Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka have established themselves as starters, the door is open for others to make a case for a starting role.
Defensive Versatility
Defensively, Ezri Konsa and Joe Gomez offer versatility, while Kobbie Mainoo and Anthony Gordon are also pushing for a spot in the starting XI. The return of the experienced Luke Shaw from injury could also provide a boost for the England backline.
“Ultimately, Southgate’s decision-making will be crucial as England aim to navigate a challenging path at Euro 2024. With the Champions League and FIFA World Cup also on the horizon, the African Cup of Nations standings, Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup will all be closely monitored as the football season unfolds.”
