Exeter City Signs Midfielder Caleb Watts to New Deal

In a significant move for the League One side, Exeter City has announced the signing of midfielder Caleb Watts to a new contract that will keep him at St James Park until January 2025.

The 22-year-old Australian international initially joined Exeter City on a short-term deal last September and extended it until the end of the season in January. Despite facing a “disappointing season” and being “hugely unlucky with injuries,” according to Exeter boss Gary Caldwell, Watts impressed the club with his “real tenacity and [hard] work” when fit and playing.

Caldwell expressed the club’s desire to offer Watts another contract, recognizing the competitive nature of the position he occupies. The new contract runs until January, providing Watts the opportunity to further cement his place in the team.

“Caleb impressed us with his real tenacity and work when he was fit and playing. We’re delighted to offer him this new contract, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop and contribute to the team.”

Watts, who featured for Australia at the recent Olympic Games, scored on his Exeter City debut against Cheltenham Town in September and went on to make 11 appearances for the club during his initial spell.

This contract extension is a testament to Watts’ talent and potential, as Exeter City looks to bolster its squad for the upcoming challenges in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Champions League, and domestic competitions such as the Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and the FA Cup.

Football fans and pundits will be keen to see how Watts performs in the remainder of the season and whether he can cement his place in the Exeter City lineup as the club aims to make a strong push in the various football tournaments and leagues.
