Football News: Manchester United Lower Asking Price for Scott McTominay Amid Interest from Multiple Clubs
In the latest development in the world of football, Manchester United have reportedly lowered their asking price for midfielder Scott McTominay, who is currently being tracked by several clubs. The Scottish international scored 10 goals across all competitions last season, but his future at Old Trafford has been up in the air throughout the summer.
McTominay’s current deal with the club is set to expire at the end of the season, although the Red Devils do have the option to extend it by a further year. Numerous Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Scottish midfielder, but Manchester United’s original asking price of £40 million had put off a lot of potential suitors.
According to football finance expert Stefan Borson, the situation has now changed. “They have got that problem at the moment it seems with McTominay, where they want £40 million and the best bid in the market is £20 million,” Borson told Football Insider. “They have got a choice. You can hold your position and say ‘We think the player is worth £40 million’ and not sell him. But then you risk having a player on your books in September when you don’t want him. It’s just the commercial reality.”
The Telegraph has now reported that Manchester United are now willing to accept an offer in the region of £25 million for McTominay, which is seen as a more realistic transfer fee for the clubs interested. This development could pave the way for a potential move in the coming weeks, with Napoli, Everton, Brentford, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce all making enquiries for the Scotsman this summer.
From McTominay’s perspective, it’s thought that he will only accept an offer from the ‘right club’ if he is to leave Manchester United. Meanwhile, former England manager Sam Allardyce believes that letting the midfielder go could be a “big disaster” for the Red Devils.
“Letting Scott McTominay go would be a big disaster for Man United, he’s become a goalscorer for Scotland and for United,” Allardyce said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
As the transfer window continues to unfold, keep an eye on the latest developments surrounding Scott McTominay’s future and the potential implications for Manchester United’s upcoming season in the Premier League.
