Football News Update: Melanie Leupolz Leaves Chelsea for Real Madrid

In a significant move within the world of women’s football, midfielder Melanie Leupolz has departed Chelsea of the Women’s Super League (WSL) to join the ranks of Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old German international has concluded her four-year spell with the 2023-24 WSL champions, Chelsea. During her time at the club, Leupolz made 11 league appearances and started in 9 matches as Chelsea went on to win the league title and the FA Cup.

“Leupolz, who joined Chelsea from Bayern Munich in March 2020, had a successful first season with the club, reaching the Champions League final. She went on to win three trophies with the London-based side before taking a maternity leave and giving birth to her first child in October 2022.”

The experienced midfielder returned to action in March 2023 and featured in 7 games that season. Leupolz was also part of the German national team’s squad at the recent Women’s World Cup, but has since announced her retirement from international football following the tournament.
