Football News Update: George Byers Joins Port Vale for Three-Year Deal After Sheffield Wednesday Release

Port Vale have secured the signing of midfielder George Byers on a three-year contract, following his release from Sheffield Wednesday. This move will see Byers reunite with Vale boss Darren Moore, who previously managed him at Hillsborough from March 2021 to June 2023.

Last season, Byers made 22 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, scoring one goal, before being loaned out to Blackpool, where he made 16 appearances.

“George is a player who I know really well from my time at Sheffield Wednesday. His energy, drive and quality on the ball will be attributes that are appreciated by our supporters. Positive competition in all positions is vital and George will come in and add even stronger competition for places amongst our already-competitive midfield options.”

Port Vale will begin their League Two campaign with a trip to Salford City on 10 August, as they look to bounce back from last season’s relegation from League One. Byers’ arrival is the 10th summer signing made by the club.

This transfer will be a boost for Port Vale as they aim to mount a challenge for promotion back to League One in the upcoming 2023/24 season. Byers’ experience and familiarity with manager Darren Moore could prove invaluable for the club’s ambitions.
