Tottenham Secure Archie Gray from Leeds, Rodon Returns to Elland Road
In a significant transfer move, Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United. The 18-year-old English Under-21 international has put pen to paper on a six-year deal after Spurs agreed to pay a fee between £25m and £30m.
The deal also sees Joe Rodon, who spent the past season on loan at Leeds, return to Elland Road on a permanent basis. Leeds’ failure to secure promotion through the Championship playoffs in May put pressure on the club to make at least one lucrative sale to comply with financial fair play regulations.
Archie Gray, hailing from a prestigious footballing family, had attracted significant interest from clubs like Chelsea, but Tottenham’s talks with manager Ange Postecoglou convinced the youngster that they were the best destination. Gray’s impressive breakout season, during which he made 52 appearances at right-back and in midfield, earned him the Championship young player of the year award and a place in the FA Cup fifth round.
Meanwhile, Rodon, who signed for Spurs from Swansea in 2020, will be returning to his former club Leeds on a permanent deal after making only 24 appearances for Tottenham.
