Arsenal Eyeing Loan Deal, Man Utd Prefer Permanent Move for PSG’s Xavi Simons
In the latest development in the world of football, Arsenal are reportedly keen on securing a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, while Manchester United (Man Utd) would prefer a permanent move for the talented Dutch international.
Simons, who is currently representing the Netherlands national team at Euro 2024, has struggled to cement a regular place in the PSG squad and was sent on loan to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last season. However, the 21-year-old excelled during his time at Leipzig, contributing 10 goals and 13 assists in 42 matches across all competitions.
“PSG signed Simons from the Barcelona youth academy in 2019, but he has only made 11 appearances for the senior team in the five years since joining the Parisiens.”
Despite his impressive performance at Leipzig, PSG still do not consider Simons ready for their first team, and he could be in line for another move away from the Parc des Princes, either on loan or permanently. Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus have all been linked with the young Dutchman, and now Arsenal and Man Utd have “asked about a potential transfer deal” for Simons, according to Caught Offside.
The report suggests that Arsenal “want to sign him on loan, while Man Utd could push for a permanent deal if they miss out on Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.” However, it is understood that “another temporary move is seen as more likely than a permanent exit, with PSG not keen to sell the 21-year-old, despite not finding much room for him in their first-team so far.”
With no shortage of interest in Simons, Arsenal and Barcelona “would be open to taking the player on loan, so that could give those clubs the edge at the moment.” Meanwhile, Man Utd, who could see significant changes under the co-ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are currently focused on making a move for Crystal Palace winger Olise, but they face stiff competition from Newcastle and Chelsea for the player’s signature.
