Arsenal Reject Marseille’s Bid for Eddie Nketiah
According to reports, Arsenal have ‘rejected’ Marseille’s latest bid for striker Eddie Nketiah, as they ‘hold firm’ on their £30 million valuation of the English forward.
The 25-year-old Nketiah slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates last season, making only ten Premier League starts, with Kai Havertz emerging as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice forward. However, Arsenal were expected to target a new forward this summer, with Nketiah and/or Gabriel Jesus potentially leaving the club.
Nketiah appears to be the most likely to depart, as he is attracting interest from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, who are managed by Roberto De Zerbi. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, but Marseille’s current offer has been deemed too low by the Gunners, who are determined to hold firm on their £30 million asking price.
“The situation surrounding Nketiah’s future remains unresolved, with Arsenal unwilling to budge on their valuation of the player, while Marseille continue their pursuit of the English striker.”
In terms of potential replacements, the report claims that Arteta and technical director Edu have ‘identified’ Brighton forward Joao Pedro as a target, with the Premier League side prepared to sell the £50 million-rated prospect.
This comes as Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Mikel Merino, with the focus now shifting to addressing the potential departure of Nketiah.
