Football News Update: Burton Albion Sign Midfielder Ben Whitfield on Two-Year Deal
In a significant move in the Football League, Burton Albion have secured the services of attacking midfielder Ben Whitfield on a two-year contract. The 28-year-old player had turned down an offer of a new deal with League Two side Barrow, where he had an impressive run, scoring 17 goals in 91 appearances over the past two seasons.
Whitfield’s transfer to Burton Albion, who compete in League One, represents a step up in his career. The midfielder, who previously came through the Bournemouth academy, has gained experience playing non-league football for Kidderminster, Torquay, and Southport, as well as in League Two with Yeovil, Port Vale, and most recently, Barrow.
“I’ve been in League Two for most of my career, so this step up is something that I’m looking to cherish,” Whitfield expressed on the Burton Albion website. “I had a very positive season last time out, and I’m looking to continue that here.”
This signing is a significant boost for Burton Albion as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season in the EFL League One. Whitfield’s goal-scoring ability and experience in the lower divisions will be valuable assets as the club seeks to climb the Football League ladder.
