Carlisle Sign Defender Archie Davies from Dundalk

Carlisle United have announced the signing of defender Archie Davies from League of Ireland side Dundalk. The former Brighton and Crawley player has signed a two-year deal with the Cumbrians, becoming their seventh new arrival of the summer transfer window.

Davies, 25, was previously on the books of Crystal Palace as a youngster and made his senior debut for Brighton in the EFL Cup in 2019. He spent two years with Crawley Town and also featured for National League club Aldershot Town before making the move to Dundalk, where he played in his second season.

Carlisle boss Paul Simpson expressed his delight at securing Davies’ signature, stating,

“He’s a player who is highly sought after. There were a lot of clubs after him so I’m delighted he’s chosen to come to us.”

The manager is confident that Davies will be able to transfer his impressive performances in Ireland back to the English Football League, saying,

“We think it’s a step up, but from what we’ve seen, we think he’s more than capable of holding his own.”

This signing is seen as a coup for Carlisle as they bolster their defensive options ahead of the upcoming season, which includes key fixtures in the EFL League Two, FA Cup, and EFL Cup. Fans will be eager to see how Davies adapts to the challenges of the English game as the club aims to mount a strong challenge in the league and cup competitions.
