Colchester United Sign Midfielder Jack Payne on Two-Year Deal

In a significant move for the club, Colchester United have bolstered their squad by signing midfielder Jack Payne on a two-year contract. The 29-year-old player recently departed Charlton Athletic upon the expiration of his contract and spent the previous season on loan with MK Dons, where he made 40 appearances in League Two.

Payne, who began his professional career with Southend United, was instrumental in the team’s success in winning the League Two play-offs in 2014. In 2019, he joined Lincoln City, who were then managed by the current Colchester United boss, Danny Cowley.

“I’ve worked with Danny before and we keep in touch generally, so when the summer came and I became a free agent, discussions started taking place.”

The midfielder’s experience and familiarity with the manager are expected to be valuable assets as Colchester United aim to make a strong push in the upcoming Euro 2024, Champions League, FIFA World Cup, Women’s World Cup, Africa Cup of Nations Standings, Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup competitions.

The addition of Payne to Colchester United’s roster is seen as a crucial step in strengthening the team’s midfield and bolstering their chances of achieving success in the 2023-24 season and beyond.
