Football News: Euro 2024, Champions League, and World Cup Updates

In the build-up to the highly anticipated Euro 2024 tournament, football pundits Roy Keane and Gary Neville have shared their insights on England’s midfield options and defensive concerns.

According to Keane, speaking on ITV Sport, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold may struggle to make an impact in a midfield role against top teams during the knockout stages of Euro 2024.

“Trent will be fine [in midfield] in the group stage, but against really top teams, I think he will be found out. I don’t think he would be up to it.”

Neville, Keane’s former Manchester United teammate, echoed similar sentiments, agreeing that Alexander-Arnold might not be the long-term solution for England in the midfield position.

“As the tournament moves on, I don’t think it will remain that way, I think other players will come into the fold,” Neville said.

Regarding England’s midfield setup, Neville believes Gareth Southgate will opt for a more balanced approach, with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham likely to feature alongside the likes of Phil Foden or Conor Gallagher.

The Sky Sports pundit also raised concerns about England’s defensive setup, with the absence of key players like Harry Maguire and the injury doubt surrounding Luke Shaw.

“Unless Gareth finds a way to compensate for the defence, I’m struggling in my mind to see how we go the whole way with that back four unless they play the games of their lives every single game, which I can’t see happening,” Neville added.

As the Euro 2024 opener against Serbia approaches on June 16, all eyes will be on Southgate’s tactical choices and the team’s ability to navigate the challenges posed by top-level opponents in the tournament.

Elsewhere in the world of football, the Champions League final saw Real Madrid triumph once again, with Jude Bellingham’s impressive performance for the winning side further fueling speculations about his future. The FIFA World Cup and Women’s World Cup are also on the horizon, with teams around the globe gearing up for these prestigious events.

In Africa, the Africa Cup of Nations standings have been closely followed, with fans eagerly anticipating the conclusion of this continental showpiece. Closer to home, the Premier League, EFL Cup, EFL Championship, EFL One, EFL Two, and FA Cup have all been providing thrilling action for football enthusiasts.

As the football calendar continues to captivate audiences worldwide, the anticipation surrounding Euro 2024 and other major tournaments remains at an all-time high.
