Foden Struggles to Replicate Premier League Form at Euro 2024

Phil Foden, the reigning Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, has yet to find his scoring touch at the ongoing Euro 2024 in Germany. Despite helping Manchester City win the top-flight title in the 2023-24 campaign, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate his domestic form on the international stage.

“I’ve not been the best player in the Premier League to come here and not show it,” Foden admitted. “But every game I’m moving little steps forward, and hopefully, I can put in good performances for England. That’s always been my aim to show it for the national team.”

Foden’s performances have improved as the tournament has progressed, with the midfielder coming close to scoring in the last game against Slovakia and hitting the post against Denmark. However, he has yet to find the back of the net at Euro 2024.

The England international also dismissed the notion that his playing style conflicts with that of his teammate, Jude Bellingham, when he drifts inside from the left. “I don’t agree with that, I feel we do work good together,” Foden said. “It’s just the way the games have gone sometimes and the way football works, [but] I feel like in the last game we did build on it really well, in terms of keeping the ball. We piled pressure on at the end, and it can hopefully click together.”

As the England team prepares for their next match in the Euro 2024 competition, Foden remains determined to find his scoring touch and deliver the performances that have made him one of the Premier League’s standout players.
