Football News: Ryan Lowe Departs Preston North End as Euro 2024 and Women’s World Cup Preparations Intensify
In a surprising move in the world of football, Preston North End have parted ways with their manager, Ryan Lowe, by mutual consent. The announcement comes just one game into the new season, following a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Sheffield United on Friday night.
Lowe, who had been in charge at Deepdale for two-and-half years, was the second-longest serving head coach in the EFL Championship, behind Mark Robins at Coventry City. During his tenure, he had guided Preston to a 13th-place finish in his first season, followed by 12th- and 10th-place finishes in the following two seasons.
However, the relationship between Lowe and the Preston North End fanbase had become strained at times, with the manager being booed off the pitch after the recent loss. Despite a late-season push for playoff contention last campaign, a crucial home defeat against potential promotion rivals Norwich City and a six-game winless streak without scoring a goal ultimately led to his departure.
“following discussions that took place on Sunday 11th August, it was mutually agreed that now was an appropriate time for a change to be made.”
Mike Marsh, accompanied by Peter Murphy and Ched Evans, will take temporary charge of the team for the upcoming fixtures against Sunderland and Swansea City this week, with further arrangements to be announced next week.
This managerial change comes as the football world turns its attention to the upcoming Euro 2024 and Women’s World Cup tournaments. Fans will be eager to see how the temporary management team at Preston North End navigates the team’s early-season challenges and whether the club can find a suitable long-term replacement to lead them in the EFL Championship.
