Football News Update: Accrington Stanley Signs Boston United Striker Jimmy Knowles
Accrington Stanley, a club competing in the English Football League (EFL) League Two, have secured the signing of Boston United striker Jimmy Knowles on a two-year deal. The 22-year-old forward had an impressive 2022-23 season in the National League North, finding the net 19 times as Boston United earned promotion through the play-offs.
This move comes shortly after Accrington Stanley signed Knowles’ former Boston United strike partner, Kelsey Mooney, last month. Knowles expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating, “It means a lot to be back in the EFL – my goal is to play as high as I can and this is a very good step up. I have never really played regularly in League Two so it will be good for me to challenge myself, but I know I am more than capable of doing it.“
The transfer is subject to Accrington Stanley and Boston United reaching a compensation agreement, a common practice when players move between clubs. This signing is expected to bolster Accrington Stanley’s attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 EFL League Two season, which will coincide with the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers, the UEFA Champions League, and the lead-up to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
