Football News Update: Liverpool Enquire About Young Argentine Defender Julio Soler

In the latest Football News, Premier League giants Liverpool have reportedly ‘called’ CA Lanus to inquire about the availability of young Argentine defender Julio Soler.

Liverpool, the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer, are believed to be interested in the 19-year-old left-back. According to reports from Argentina, Lanus’ ‘leaders received a call from Liverpool’ while Soler was representing Argentina’s U-23 side at the Olympic Games.

Lanus are said to be demanding a fee of $15 million (£11.7 million) for the talented teenager, and if Liverpool offer that figure, ‘there is a good chance that the operation will be completed in this transfer market.’

The Reds have ‘only asked for the conditions’ of a potential deal and are yet to make an official bid for Soler, who joined the Lanus youth academy from Argentinos Juniors at the age of nine. The young defender is under contract with the Argentine club until December 2026.

Soler, who was born in Paraguay to Paraguayan parents, has made 36 appearances for Lanus, registering two assists. He was a key member of Argentina’s U-23 squad at the recent Olympics, starting all three group matches and coming off the bench in the quarter-final against France.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has previously stated that he is happy with his current squad, but admitted it would be ‘a surprise’ if the club did not make any new signings before the end of the transfer window. The Reds have been linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, but the high asking price has been a deterrent.

The potential addition of Julio Soler could provide a long-term solution at left-back, with Andy Robertson currently the first-choice in that position for Liverpool. The Reds will be hoping to bolster their squad as they look to challenge for the Premier League title and make a deep run in the Champions League and other domestic cup competitions in the upcoming season.
