Football News: Stockport County Welcome Blackburn Rovers in EFL Cup Clash

In the first round of the 2024-25 EFL Cup, Stockport County are set to host Blackburn Rovers at Edgeley Park on Tuesday. The home side kicked off their League One campaign with a 2-0 win over Cambridge United, while the visitors secured a thrilling 4-2 victory against Derby County in the Championship.

Stockport manager Dave Challinor has led the Hatters from the National League to the third tier since his appointment in November 2021, and last season his side won the League Two title. However, the hosts were eliminated from the EFL Cup in the first round last season, losing on penalties against Sheffield Wednesday.

Blackburn, on the other hand, have progressed from six of their last eight ties in the competition, with the two losses coming against Premier League teams. Last season, they were knocked out in the fourth round against Chelsea after a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

“Blackburn defeated Stockport 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on August 2, thanks to a goal from Tyrhys Dolan.”

The visitors could make changes to their lineup on Tuesday in anticipation of their match against Norwich City on August 17, with Yuki Ohashi, Sammie Szmodics, and Andreas Weimann potentially featuring.

Despite Stockport’s home advantage, Blackburn’s stronger record in the EFL Cup and their higher division status make them favorites for the clash. Fans can expect an exciting match as both teams look to progress in the competition.
