Stockport County Chases Permanent Deal for Aston Villa Attacker Louie Barry

Stockport County, the recently crowned League Two champions, are seeking to secure a permanent deal for Aston Villa’s young attacker Louie Barry in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to a report from TeamTalk, the two clubs have already initiated talks over such an agreement.

Barry initially joined Stockport on a season-long loan last summer, but his spell was hindered by an injury that kept him sidelined between October 2023 and April 2024. Despite this setback, the 20-year-old has seemingly done enough during his time with the Hatters to convince the club to pursue a long-term transfer.

“During his time with Stockport, Barry made 22 appearances across all competitions, netting 9 goals and providing 4 assists. His contributions played a crucial role in the club’s successful campaign, as they secured the League Two title, finishing 4 points ahead of second-place Wrexham and 14 clear of the play-off spots.”

Stockport’s promotion to League One for the 2024/25 season means they will need to strengthen their squad, and the permanent acquisition of Barry appears to be a priority. The club has already held talks with Aston Villa about bringing the attacker back to Edgeley Park on a long-term basis and is keen to make the deal happen.

However, Stockport may face competition for Barry’s services, as a number of Championship clubs are reportedly interested in the young talent. Barry joined Aston Villa in January 2020 after a stint in Barcelona’s youth setup and has since had loan spells with Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons, and Salford City, in addition to his time with Stockport.

If Stockport can secure Barry’s permanent transfer, it would be a significant coup for the club as they look to establish themselves in the third tier of English football. The attacker’s pedigree and impressive performances during his loan spell suggest he has the potential to excel at a higher level, and his existing connection with the club and its supporters could work in Stockport’s favor.

As the summer transfer window approaches, this is a deal that Stockport will be keen to complete, as they aim to build on their recent success and make a strong start to their return to League One.
